I'm adding a second room onto my home studio and am putting cinderblock and sheetrock between the two rooms to isolate the recording booth (my old room) from the iso booth (the new room) where cranked amps will be. This should be adequate, only one problem, there is a door between the two rooms, and although I will be making it a solidcore door instead of the hollow core door it is now I feel it's going to be the "weakest link". I thought about adding a second door a few feet away, but the way the door swings it's just not possible in the space provided. Any ingenious ideas?

Also, what's better extra sheet rock on the existing wall between the cinderblock for more density or an air gap to break sound up?

make the door as airtight as possible. Use weatherstripping all around and build up a threshold so that when the door is closed, it's airtight. You could add an additional seal to the same door by attaching a plywood sheet to the seal side and adding another stop and seal on top of that. Kristian posted a pic of this concept a long while back in this forum ... I bet it's gone by now.
A wimpy door that's airtight will be better than a heavy door that has gaps all around it. That includes the framing around the door, as well. Caulk is your friend. :)
I used outdoor steel doors that had all the weatherstripping on already. While this works ok ... I intend on making a second seal sometime ... somewhere ... somehow ( it's a project that has been procrastinated forever).
I've also considered pasting SheetBloc onto one or both sides of the door ... but haven't been able to justify the cost, yet. Again, it's worthless if there's no seal on the door.
Even though you mentioned that you can't do it ... I'd still say the best scenario would be to do the above and then install another airtight door ... so you have can an airlock in between. You can always get a door that swings the other way.
Hope that helps ... not an expert's opinion, but maybe one will support or refute it.

Extra sound proofing for a door..

Extra sound proofing for a door can be a simple matter of hanging a thick blanket or quilt over the door frame. Both sides would be even better.

You can also make it so it rolls up above the top of the door with a length of rope or cord.

I made a double door for one of my entrances, so each door swings out the opposite way, but I think the heavy blanket works better and takes up less room.
