Thanks for the help...

I got some good information on specifics and am tackling Cakewalk with confidence.

It really is pretty easy.....

I figure just about the time I figure out this old express version, my home studio will get here..
But, I'm told learning the express is a good primer !

Thanks again everybody !

bob,

I hope I helped settle things in that other thread.. As I said I listened to some of your stuff and it sounded great. Before I bought Sonar 2 (last February), I'd never thought of using a computer for recording. I was using a Roland VS-840Ex and had messed around with a couple of programs on the computer and the last thing I did was use Pro Tools Free (because it was the only program that I could slave to the 840) to arrange my wedding song. Well, after playing around with that I started to think about using the computer for recording. About 2 weeks before the wedding when I was finishing the song my computer died in the butt.. I mean sparks coming out of the Power Supply. My father kindly donated his PC to the cause and he bought himself another (what a kind father!).

My Grand Mother, who passed on 3 months ago (she was 92) had always wanted to buy me something for my music when she passed on (if that makes sense). I was looking at a Roland 2496. I started to realise that for a fraction of the cost I could get the same result on PC, plus, because I didn't play drums and didn't have a orchestra behind me I could program all of that and not have to worry about syncing it with anything.. just have to watch latency.

In the last 9 months I have learn't soo much. I still don't have a production which I've recorded in Sonar to show you because I'm always pushing myself to get the best sound.. and starting off writing/arranging/recording I'm setting high standards! So stick around and in the not to distant future you will hear some of my stuff.

Good luck with it all

Porter

BTW I found a copy of Cakewalk Pro 8 Express in a cupboard when going through my room last night!
