Here's what I have decided so far.

2X Maxtor EIDE 80GB ATA/133 7200RPM 8.9 ms (8MB). 6Y080P0 75 Dollars
2X Corsair Value Select 184 Pin 512MB DDR PC-3200 - OEM 90 Dollars
Random ATX Case 35 dollar range
so thats 430 bucks so far.

Leaving me with the Mobo and CPU choices as well as what would be the best bang for the buck Video card?
Thanks again for being so kind to a newbie!
Peace,
Rafe

I wouldn't get that memory. It's CAS 3 PC3200. You get no headroom if you're gonna run an FSB anywhere near 200 MHz. Seriously, that Kreton Blitz Extreme memory kick ass for the money. I've clocked it up to it's spec and it does work with the advertised speed and timings. The corsair would crash and burn runnning the same clock and timings... The only thing wrong with it is it doesn't say "Corsair" on the side. Plus you don't need 1 GB. 512mb is fine for the average DAW. Just keep it clean and don't get it loaded spyware and junk loading up on boot... Even then your prob will be cpu load, not memory...

Awesome, thanks daffy for that info. Some dudes, from what i've read, act like your helpless without at least a gig of ram. But thanks for the info. What do you think of some good choices for mobo's and cpu's? thanks,
Rafe
Also, I don't plan on having ANYTHING on this computer other than the essentials.

That setup I posted in your previous thread really does kick ass for the money. The only weakness I can see in it is the low budget vid card. If you plan on playing some games you might wanna think about a Saphire Radeon 9600XT 128 MB. They run about $150 or so, but with that setup that vid card would easily break 5000 in 3DMark 03 and 13000+ in 3D mark 01 with fresh drivers. If you don't have to buy Win XP you could get the 9600 XT and still be under you $700 Budget for the computer. If you buy XP you're only ~$60 over your budget.

Cool then, I will certainly check that out, i was just wondering if there might be an alternative to those. Thanks for your help man, i'll be looking those up,
Rafe
BTW, i'm no gamer

There's cheaper memory out there but that stuff is bullet proof. My attitude about building computers is you get memory beyond the spec you're gonna run it at so that's one less thing you have to worry about when it comes to building a fast yet perfectly stable system. The Kreton can run 216 MHz at CL2. At the most you'll probably run 200 MHz CL2 unless you're really into overclocking like the people you see on Anandtech's forums...
