I appreciate everyone's help and objective criticism on the first dry drum sample. Experience is the only way to get better at recording, and I've tried to address most of the comments I received. Here is the link to a new take:

What I did different was the following:
Compressed the snare a little bit
Compressed the kick moderately
Brought the snare and kick up in the mix, I think my biggest mistake in the first sample
Positioned the o/h mics a little more like tmix suggested since I wasn't (and truthfully still am not) getting enough tom, especially ride toms, in the mix from the overheads
Went through a re-tuning of my toms this morning, batter and resonant heads (I used Queen as a go-by because I love the sound they get from drums in the studio); I still like the snare tuning, so I didn't change that. I also like the kick tuning, so no changes there either
Re-positioned the snare mic after several trial locations and mic angles
Re-positioned the kick mic after several trial locations and angles
Inserted a little additive/subtractive EQ on the mix...I didn't want to do this earlier to keep the spirit of "dry", but I tried to bring out the cymbals and high end through the o/h's while pulling the levels down a bit so the dedicated snare and kick mics stood out in the mix a little better
It may have all been in vain, maybe only some of it, but I learned more from it nonetheless. This is the fun part of home recording. I may still have some work ahead of me, and I really do appreciate you guys helping me to eventually get there. Please let me know where I should go from this point
