Test tape

Dumb question but can i use a 2 inch 16 track test tape on a 2 inch 24 track machine to calibrate it? the price for a 24 track tape is out of reach.

Yes. Cal tapes are recorded "full" width so any track configuration can use them so long width and speed are the same.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure most if not all MRL tapes are full-track so putting a 2" tape on a 16-track, 24-track, 19.75-track wouldn't matter, but if you have a model number to be sure you could check that. Should be okay.

You want to make sure the decks have the same equalization standard and magnetic flux.
