I'm contemplating getting either the Terratec EWX2496 or an M-Audio Audiophile 2496... If I get the M-audio I have to buy Cakewlk too, whereas the Terratec is cheaper, and it comes with some software... Is the Terratec 2496 any good? Can I get away with using just the software that comes with it (i.e. not buying Cakewalk or Cooledit)? I'm new and I just want to do some simple guitar/vocal recording.
I would also like to confirm from people who know what they're talking about (as I'm a newbie) that all I need to record on my computer is a card (as discussed above), a mixer and a mic (and all the connecting cables, of course). Am I missing anything?
I also wonder how a multi-track mixer input into a single analog I/O slot still translates into mult-track when it gets to the software. Does the card do time division multiplexing or something? I don't NEED to know the answer to this one, but I'm just curious.
Thanks guys!!
Doug
