I've got an old recording that I'd like to make the tempo a little faster. It's an import of a .wav file so it's a stereo mix. Can I get some pointers?

Just bring the file into Audacity, highlight it, go to the menu at the top of the screen called "Effects," and choose change tempo. You can then choose the percentage of tempo change and preview what it will sound like before you actually change the tempo of the whole song. You can have as many tries to change the tempo if you don't get it right the first time. Just hit undo and go back into the tempo change window.

He did post this in the Pro Tools section..

So if you want to do it in Pro Tools, try changing your Trim tool to "TCE" (time compression/expansion) and then time-compress the whole thing by dragging the end to the left. It may sound a bit funky. There is a way to change what algorithms PT is using to do the TCE. Check under preferences.

Does Audacity run okay on windows 7

I'd like to try it on both PT and Audacity

I'm not following how to change "Trim tool to "TCE" (time compression/expansion)" Can't find it in the pulldowns?

Are you running PT8? Use F6 to toggle through the Trim tools or right-click (maybe?) on it?...

I got it to work. And it didn't degredate the quality of the recording by any noticable amount. cool, thanks Austin!
