So here's the story....I'm basically a SINGER/SONGWRITER who writes in several styles & I recently wrote a country ballad....

I Live in L.A. & for the life of me could not find a "country" music producer locally....I wasn't even even close to having finances for Nashville....I finally just moved forward myself & brought in different players locally & had them stick to the original feeling of the tune.......

Let me know your thoughts......on the song, vocals, production, etc. All feedback is greatly appreciated.

TELL ME WHY

Never been the kind to say what’s on my mind
What I want to tell you is how I feel
I get so afraid you might be my worst mistake
I toss and turn in bed at night can we get it right

(CHORUS):
TELL ME WHY does it seem
It always has to come down to you and me
I try to sing a different song
But it don’t last too long
TELL ME WHY is it so
I can’t seem to ever let you go
My mind tells me to walk away
But my heart says stay
Won’t you TELL ME WHY
Won’t you TELL ME WHY

You’re no good for me, I’m no good for you
Still we stay together even though
Sometimes I get confused why we do the things we do
Caught in this web of love that’s all tangled up

(CHORUS):
TELL ME WHY does it seem
It always has to come down to you and me
I try to sing a different song
But it don’t last too long
TELL ME WHY is it so
I can’t seem to ever let you go
My mind tells me to walk away
But my heart says stay
Won’t you TELL ME WHY
Won’t you TELL ME WHY
Won’t you TELL ME WHY
Won’t you TELL ME WHY

Wow - that was great - like Greg_L said it sounds really PRO. Where did you record all the parts? What imstruments did you play? This is radio ready AFAIC.... radio friendly too....great voice...

:):D:):D

Thanks for the great feedback guys.........

Actually I tracked the instruments in one studio and did drums and vocals and mix-down at another....

They are Home studios (semi-pro) but I did bring in some good players....And technology has changed since my last stab at recording 10 years ago......

And man am I a pain to please.....these guys were like you don't like what? and I'd have them re-work it....I don't always explain myself well either...

Thanks for the listen

Damnit, I was hoping this was gonna be a cover of the theme song for "Berserk".

So, when does the tour start ?
Top notch it every aspect. It's got HIT written all over it. It's ready for radio, for sure.

Just to let you know, Tell Me Why is a Beatles song ;)

I think there is no such thing as "this forums style":)
the song sounds great! I'm not a big country fan, but If THAT was done in a home-studio i want one of those:D

Sounds like something straight off the country music radio station...this is homerecording mate, not pro!

Just joking...it sounds awesome. You're pretty lucky to be able to bring "in different players locally & had them stick to the original feeling of the tune......."

Great song and recording. Although this is not my genre of choice, I deeply respect anything done in excellence and taste. The song is skillfully arranged and really works. The vocals are really nice and warm sounding. Sounds like your'e using a Neuman U87? Keep up the great work.

Yeah there's no style requirements in this forum.... we get a wide variety of tunes for everyone to enjoy.....It's amazing really the talent around here....

:D:):D:)

If the country that they came out with today sounded like this tune I would still be listening to the country stations around here.
Nice job, Nice voice and nice playing.

HERM

Thanks for the good word.....I do get that response ALOT....I guess in essence the song is a cross between Country & Pop...Most people who despise country love the tune....Kinda gets me thinking maybe I SHOULD consider cutting it more Pop....Well time will tell

Overall nice job man. If you want a completely honest opinion, here are my nitpicks.

1) Sounds like the drummer falls out of the pocket in a few places throughout the song (im assuming you tracked everything around a click or programed beat hen tracked drums after). Usually tracking drums first is almost a must unless you have an incredible player or a lot of time for editing.

2) I'm hearing alot of squashed transients on the acoustic and drums primarilly. You might think about loosening the attack times a bit across the board on some of the tracks' compression. (Could be 2-buss compression but sounds more track-related to me.

3) I'd really like to hear more snare, kick bass guitar. The mix sounds pretty balanced but it's rythmic drive is kinda of lacking. I can't bob my head to it right now.

4) Maybe some light Auto-Tune on the main vox. I know that sounds typical but lets face it, it's almost a must on today's top 40 songs.

Overall a great recording, but still in need of some tweaking, IMO. Radio is very un-forgiving anymore of heavy compression and it sounds to me that if this track is played on any major station with heavy processing, it will almost be unlistenable. Listen to CMT, or pickup any nashville country-pop recording in the last five years and you will hear where your mix is a bit lacking in the fields i speak of.

Not trying to bash by any means, just giving you my honest opinion.

Great songwriting btw and very unique singing style.
