Tell me what you think! Singer or not?

It is alright. It sounds like you have a lot of influences. I don't hear any originality in your voice. Pretty good rhythm but that is only saying so much considering it is a cover song. You are not bad, by any means. I'd like to hear some original songs. I would get a better grasp on who you are as a singer. Covers are limiting and boxing. Good tonality for the most part. Stay real, your good at it.

Hehe. It sure is

In the following context - in general I percieve many of your comments to be of the vein (paraphrasing) - 'let go of your inhibitions and preconceived notions and just let that organic shit happen'. Then you turn around and publish the notion that covers are limiting and boxing. Covers are just another framework. There is nothing limiting or boxing about them.

Ok, I agree with your statement that covers are just another framework. I do take offense to the "vain" comment, by the way. I am fully aware of the creative noose that covers can become if pursued to frequently. If you are trying to find your sound or your voice it is better to search instead of mimic. It is all about artistic growth and if my comments truly offend you I apologize sincerely. You may be reading into it a little to deep. :o

I think you are misunderstanding me, probably my fault. I did not use the word 'vain', I used the word 'vein' - "A pervading character or quality", meaning a generalization about the type of comments you make about ridding yourself of pre-conceived notions and being organic and free and living within the music. I am not criticizing you, making fun of you or being sarcastic. I am not in any way offended. Finding your own sound and voice is an important part of any artists life. Searching is good. Part of the search is undertanding history and the domain you are working in. I meet many people who truly believe they have found a unique and individual voice or sound, or that their writing is original, or that they are somehow unique or different. Often times they simply don't understand that they are mining well worn territory, because they have no sense of context. I'm not saying in any way that this is an opinion I have formed of you.... The real beauty of this game is that musically we are free to do whatever the hell we want, and the only boundaries are the ones we place on ourselves.

I enjoy this quote from you: "The real beauty of this game is that musically we are free to do whatever the hell we want, and the only boundaries are the ones we place on ourselves."

good rhythm is good rhythm .... being a cover has nothing to do with that.
Further one of the great singers of all time only sang covers ... Frank Sinatra.
The same is true of very many of the great singers
of that era like Billie Holiday and Etta James.
If you truly can't tell anything about a singer because they're doing a cover, that says more about your own prejudices and inability to get past them than it does about the singer.

Brandman ..... sounds pretty good.

I think it sounds great! I am in love with Sugarcult! Your voice is actually really similar to the lead singer's voice. Your harmonies were good, too!

i thought u were good...not sure whats going on in this thread tho..

Covers or not covers, you sound good to me pal....Well done...

I dunno... I was initiallly all dismayed when young, when i learned many of my favorite singers were just doing "covers". In fact many of the BEST singers ONLY do other peoples songs... whether covers, or, someone else did the songwriting.

I got over it pretty quickly, LMAO

I mean... take a great singer... whats it MATTER whether its an old cover, and now they do it? Or, if some other songwriter wrote a great song, and they end up doing it? *shrugs* the only time i really dont like it, is when it not been LONG ENOUGH since the last cover of it was done.

most of the american listening audience doesnt really care a whole lot about who WROTE the song, just how well the band and singer pull it off, for the MOST part.

SInging AND songwriting too? Kinda like being a race car driver, AND a mechanic, too.

BUT, i cant sing a note, LMAO, so what do I know? Nothing...

=================================================================

YET, the more i think about it? I DO KINDA hate it when some young musicians come suddenly from NOWERE, and did a "punk, quick" version of "the boys of summer"??

Eck... these teeny boppers were all running around "wow, these guys are GREAT! What a GREAT SONG they made!" i was like "Oh my GOD, here, listen to the ORIGINAL... they BUTCHERED it !!"

the kids largely "shrugged", and still liked the loud young angry kids, pouting with lip rivets... they said the original sounded like "boring old fart music" and "elevator crap"

*&^%ing kids, LMAO (now i KNOW i'm old, hee hee)

aw, heck... I guess if i could manage drop D tuning, and run a single finger up and down the E-string... learn where the 3 chords were, LMAO... and belch aggressively the lyrics of an old classic... it would make a lot of cash in some circles, LMAO, except i wouldnt make a DIME at it, I'm losing my hair, gainign weight, and when i POUT with my very best angst and well=practiced insouciance... i rather look like i have GAS PAINS, hee hee.

I dont picture anyone would pay to see THAT, lol, but it would be humorous, LMAO

This is good and so nice but i think it can be much better if you will do some hard work on it other wise it is so good in my opinion
