Do you know how to drive? Ok, now think about getting behind the wheel of a car for the first time, and you've got a laptop with a wireless internet connection, and a webcam, and as you come into a curve you log onto homedriving.com and post a picture of the steering wheel and ask "is this the right settings on my car?" Wait....I'm not being a smartass.....I'm trying to get a concept across to you. With driving, everything is dynamic...there are no correct settings. How much do you turn the wheel? The amount that you need to, at that moment, on that road. It's the same with your compressor. You've got to learn what the controls do first, and then start practicing using them. Every peice of music is going to be just as different as every road is different. There's a certain degree of "matter of preference", but first theres learning to stay on the road, and not knowing what the controls actually do on a piece of gear is a sure way to end up in the ditch.
Good luck,
