Telephone effect

Its done by EQ. If your are using a software sequencer, take a look into the EQ presets you may already have the effect waiting for you to fine tune it.
 
I know that the download version of Adobe Audition has a really cool Phone effect. You can download it for free at the adobe website. You will have to down load the whole thing and then you will have a free recording program. Only for 30 days though.

cut out the middle freq. bands until you like what you hear.
 
I would suggest the exact opposite. Cut the top and bottom, boost the middle and add a little distortion. Use a cheap mic without a pop-sheild too.
 
hmmm...i retract my earlier statement. I tried a few different ways of doing it and I agree with Protein now. If you want clarity in the vocals cut the lows all the way up to about 800-900Hz and 5000Hz and above. The way I suggested gave a more nasaly sound. Which can sound cool too. Props to protein for making me look like a moron :cool:
 
Typical telephone frequency response is from 300-3100hz. Cut everything below 300 & above 3100 and adjust to taste.
