I know I'll probably never own one, but I have been drooling for the last half hour at the mics at this website:

http://www.telefunkenusa.com

Apparantly they're exact replicas of the U47, C12, Elam 251, and a few others.

There's even a lower cost (~3000) version of their C12 replica that I seriously think I might own someday... if I get some sort of six figure salary somewhere.

I dunno -- 10k for a mic??

Given the huge success of Telefunken USA and the never-ending demand for vintage (original) Telefunken's, I never uderstood why Telefunken Germany (the original) discontinued their products. They have been bought by the German "Grundig" company, as far as I know, who is very successful in marketing tvs, radius, etc., on the German market. Grundig still builds mics, but only very crappy ones. Grundig has almost the same status like Sony in Germany, so why the heck don't they have a line of high-level products??

Prob. not proifitable enough..Everyone buys TV's{somewhat disposable comodity} ect...but "high end" mics..For the effort, the profit ratio those other products is prob much better..just a guess

ahh -- I did some more research:

Telefunken dates back till 1903 (when King Wilhelm of Germany started to get his war machinery into gear; Telefunken would have its 100th birthday this year!) and they were operating until 1985 as part of the AEG-Telefunken company. AEG still exists and they build washing machines and kitchen appliences in Germany. In 1985, Daimler-Benz (now Daymler-Crysler) bought AEG-Telefunken and discontinued their products. Evil Daimler-Benz!

Imagine Daimler-Crysler building top-notch mics in addition to their sedans today! Wouldn't that fit into their corporate profile?? :D

The one I'm most excited about is the Telefunken Ela M 12, their C12 copy.
