I've been having trouble getting a clean sound on tape when playing with single coils. The actual hum in the room isn't really bad can't be heard while playing but when I listen back on the tape I heard the hum leading up to when the track starts and anywhere in between where I'm not playing for a few seconds. I'm working with a 424MkII and an SM57. Is there any way I can minimize the humming on the tape?

I'm playing this through a Marshall VS100R on an Axis Super Sport if that helps.

Thanks,

Either get one of em Noiseless Pickups... or Stand as far away from any electrical device as possible... (computer, DAW, TV, Stereo, etc....)

If its a very subtle noise... maybe a noise canceller... though, that'll probably remove some of your tone with it.

noise gate

Using a noise gate (I use the one in my editing program) could probally solve this problem. Someone can probally tell you how it works better than I can, so I will not do that unless nobody else does right away. This assumes of course that you have not used one before.

Hope this helps

We all know the dilemma of the single coil gremlins.....it was good advice to stay as far away as possible from the PC or workstation. When I lean into my VS880,I get a myriad of noise that sounds like it should be on an episode of "Lost In Space." As much as I love my original single coils,I put EMG-SA pickups on one of my strats. They are very good for digital recording, although they aren't as organic as stock pups.Good luck!
