Tech 21 tm30 (good for metalish sound?)

I do direct recording, been alot of trial and error to get a decent sound. So far my best is with a friends VOX amp to my Tascam interface, but alas that was short lived. Been reading lotsa good about Tech 21 trademark 30 amp, specially for direct recording to pc. Any1 used one? Im looking for a heavy edge...cannot find any demo sounds.....
 
Does any1 at least have a recommendation for a good amp for direct recording that has a full heavy distortion? Just dont want to have to use a pedal, and plugins are crap.
