i just ran across this particular model called the tri a.c. it's a 3 channel programmable preamp/modeler. i now realize that i cannot live without something like this for home recording and live use.
any suggestions on a good preamp?
any discussion about this topic interests me.
thanks

That's a tricky one... I was a SansAmp/Tech21 NYC Artist for a good part of the 90's... I was, and still am, very impressed with the sound of basically everything they put their name on.

For live use and recording A CABINET, they almost can't be beat.

If your purpose is to record direct instead, I would have to recommend the POD Pro - Even then, you MUST get into the midi controls to tweak it, but once you do, you'll be a pretty happy dude...

Hope that helps...

reccomending Tech21 products to my friends makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.:)

I have a Sansamp Tri-ac as well as a POD 2.0 and POD XT. I also have an older Digitech RP1 which rounds out my guitar DIs. I like the Tri-ac for some things such as a clean sound that is close to the three amps that it simulates, however if you want distortion without pulling out stompboxes, in my opinion, the POD is the way to go.

The nice thing about the Tri-ac is that is does sound good with some of the standard stomp box units like a tube screamer.
