Hello all,

I've got some very good advice from this board in the past, and I'm looking for some more. I re-did 4 of my previous recordings, and I'd like to know what you think of them.

Go here: http://www.acidplanet.com/artist.asp?songs=261004&T=2522. The 4 that I re-did are the first 5 on the list ("The Way It Has To Be", "Something Better", "13 Miles", "Better This Way", and "So Far Away"). Pick on any of them or all of them - just let me know how to make them better.

I've been getting better and better results, and I think these are my best so far. I used Drums on Demand for the drum tracks in the first 3 songs, and I think they helped the sound immensely. The recording notes are in the song descriptions, but I'll put another post up and note my gear.

Let me know what you think of the songs themselves, as well.

Thanks in advance for listening! If you'd like me to listen to any of your stuff, just let me know!

OK, here's what I use. I record/play everything myself.

Mic's:
MXL 603s matched pair (used to record all the acoustic guitar)
Studio Projects C1 (used to record all the vocals)
Shure sm57 (used to record electric guitar)

Pre-amps:
M-Audio DMP-3 (used with all mic's on the tracks, also used to record bass direct-in)

Guitars:
Acoustic: Takamine FD-360sc
Electric: SRV Custom Strat
Bass: Some Yamaha (don't know the model)

Amp:
Mesa Boogie Dual Rectifier Blue Angel 4X10

Drums:
Drums on Demand - used on first 3 songs on song page
Midi drums programmed in cubase (drums on demand is way better)

Other:
PowerValve all tube overdrive pedal (used for all the dirty sounds)
Behringer V-amp 2 (not used on the first 4 songs)

Listening to "Something Better". I'm not sure what is going on or how to put my finger on it but it seems like the recording sounds a bit more 'far away' than other recordings. I don't think it's the levels but just.. not sure. This could use a second look at trying to enhance the lows I'm not getting much bottom end from it.

From a performance standpoint I think that the vox are functioning within a proper melodic range but there could be maybe more spark or emotion brought to them. Like the melody fits the chord progression but maybe get yourself more pumped up before you track vox or try to capture some more subtle funny nuances in your voice/writing.

Hey thanks for listening. I've had that comment before about my vocals - sometimes they seem a little, well, lifeless. I guess sometimes I focus on trying to stay in pitch so much that I lose loose track of capturing the feeling of the song. I'll work on it.

The Way it Has to Be:

Vocals seem too 'intimate' for the song. It sounds dumb this close to the listener, I'd back up a bit and aim for more ethereal. Would like a little more heft on the drums, not much, just a little more solid sounding.
