Teac Graphic Equalizer. . ?

Hey Everyone, . .what's been going on guys~ I haven't been on the forum in a while, But, I missed my Tascam Analog brotha's. . .I hope everyone been well. .

Anyway, I gotta a little dilemma that I need some help with. . . I was wondering if anyone could recommend a descent & inexpensive USED graphic equalizer, . . either Teac, or some other brand~

What I'm trying to do is make a copy of an old cassette recording, . .and burn it to cd. But, the quality of the recording is kinda poor and can use some sweetening. . .I was thinking of sending the cassette deck to a 10 or 7 band graphic equalizer, and then send it direct to the cd burner (PDR-555RW) "Yes, I finally broke down and bought one, . ." unless you guys think theres a better way to do it. .?

Not sure if this is the correct section for this kinda stuff, . but you guys are all 'Smarties' and my Tascam brotha's have always helped me in the past. So, I thought that I would start here, and see what you guys think.

hmmmmmm, . .okay, new question?

would I just be better-off, or easier to send the cassette recorder to a small mixer, .. . then sending the mixer to the cd burner, . . . and using the eq settings on the mixer to sweetin' the sound?

With the home/console style cassette player, it will require a stereo RCA/RCA cable and [2] RCA(F)-1/4"(M) adapter plugs.
 
Okay, great! So the Casette Deck would go from L&R OUT, into the (TAPE INPUT) on the 424, . . and then from 424's (L&R TAPE OUTS), or (L&R MONITOR) to the CD Recorder?
 
Not exactly.

Connect the cassette deck line outs on RCA-to-1/4" adapter, to the 424mkII's 1/4" Mic/Line Inputs (1/2).
Pan Channel 1 hard left & Channel 2 hard right.
Set up the channels 1/2 with Trim & Eq on the incoming signal.
Connect the 424mkII Line Outs, L/R, to to the stereo inputs of the CDr recorder, (RCA-RCA).

In this specific operation, there is no intermediate recording onto tape on the 424mkII, so the Tape Outs don't come into play. You just feed the mix through from the Inputs 1/2 to the L/R Stereo buss, (Line Outs). You could monitor on phones, or through your home stereo with the additional RCA Monitor Outs, if you want.

As the 424's mixer goes, the most straight through signal path is from the Inputs to the L/R Stereo buss, (Line Outs), and you'd probably want to use that path for the EQ and dub operation you're describing.
 
Ahhhhhh, okay gotcha, .. Now, that makes sense!

So, you want to bypass all the recording (tape) features, and just use the 424's mixer and eq features, . .very cool! Thanks man
 
Eh,... I think that's what you were asking for??

To dub from an existing cassette to a CDr, with EQ and fine tuning of the sound along the way.

In this scenario, there's probably no added benefit in dubbing to tape on the Porta, but just to use it as a thru-device for EQ. I think that's all it would take! ;)

You may want to dub it to tape on the Porta for fun, but it's not an absolutely necessary intermediate step, in the operation you've described.
