Teac external CDR, hums when I turn it on

I have a Teac CDR55s external SCSI writer. I don't use it alot, I've been using my father's Firewire CDRW.

Anyways, when I turn it on it goes "HHHHHHMmmmmmmmm" for like 30 seconds, then it quiets down. If I turn it off and then on again, it usually doesn't do it. It does it mainly when it was disconnected for a period of time.

Anybody had this problem? Did you fix it?

I don't have the unit, but it sounds like a cooling fan. If it is, a bit of lithium grease (carefully sprayed) should do it.
