Hi to all,
I'm new to the forum and hope someone may be able to help me with a question.
I have been looking for some time for a reel to reel deck to be able to playback the tapes I made when I was a much younger person for my kids.
Over the weekend I was able to pick up an absolutely mint Teac A2060 reel to reel from the original owner. The unit looks like it maybe has about 5 hours of playtime on it! It has been stored for years in his bedroom closet.
The only issue the deck has is that when you first turn the lever to play the tape either way (It's a auto reverse unit) it starts very slowly for a second or two then builds to speed and runs fine.I have not done anything to the unit yet and was hoping for some suggestions since it has been sitting for so long. Also would anyone have a service manual for this model they might be willing to share? I 'm wondering about oiling the motor if needed. (It,s a single motor type with rubber wheels I believe). I have not contacted Tascam about parts yet so if anyone knows a good source for parts for this model please let me know. Thanks in advance to everyone and have a great day!

Could be any number of things wrong with an old machine.

Foam and rubber degrading and leaving gooey mess everywhere is pretty common, so a good first thing to do would be to just disassemble and thoroughly clean it, if you're up to the job.

There's a good chance that the motor is fine, but the mechanics are gunged up causing friction.

Its almost like an outboard motor.....run it run it run it !!:D
