What is the tracking configuration for a TEAC A-6100? When in 4track mode(recording a stereo mix across the full 1/4" tape) is it;

Track 1&2 right
Track 3&4 left

Or is is it;
Track 1&3 right
Track 2&4 left

This is a sweet machine :-)

Your deck is a 1/2 track stereo mastering recorder. This means that when you record on the A6100 and play it back, you are using the entire width of the tape for the 2 channels of sound.

Your deck is also equipped with a second play head which is designed to only playback 1/4 track stereo recordings made on standard consumer recorders. On that head, the top two tracks will play the A side of the reel and then when you flip the tape over and play the B side, it will play the stereo track on the other side of the tape. You have to flip the switch on top of the head block to get it to play those tapes. And flip it back again to play back tapes recorded on the A6100.

This is expressed as;

Track 1&2 is Side A of the tape, in 4 track playback mode; which equals the Left track when recording on the A6100.
Track 3&4 is Side B of the tape, in 4 track playback mode; which equals the right track when recording on the A6100.

Keep in mind this deck will not play all 4 tracks at once like an A3340 or A3440 would do. The A6100 will only playback 2 tracks at a time.

Get the picture?

Cheers! :)

Flip the head cover. You'll see the heads marked, Erase, Record, 4T, 2T.
