Teac A-4300...is it worth anything?

I see them on craigslist all the time, usually going for under 100. Looks like a good stereo recorder though.

Here's one on ebay in really nice shape. They seem to have been geared more for the audiophile than the musician because they have that auto reverse continuous play feature.

looks like somebody have stolen top-inner knobs for his j-bass diy project ... :D
also side(s) are gone...
if the machine is working that's a good thing so it can be used as is (if the user does not care about look and can adapt some radio-shack knobs) or to be restored by anybody who can do cleaning , cutting wood and finding the damn run-away knobs...
if it is dead, then parts can worth some good bux, but it takes time to take off the valuable parts, list on e-bay and all that crap... To sell it as one piece as is for parts or restoration project - you may get from 20 to up 100 bux if you get lucky (meaning somebody at the moment will be shopping around for this model parts)... You sure will make more bucks out of it if you part it out... but it's only may be a good idea if you have no real job, no kids, no wife, no dogs or cats and things like that around to take care of... (say you've got nothing else better to do... because of money you make this way will hardly jastify time spent and effort)

also if the machine is in working order - it is GREAT . You gotta hear it to belive it. ... 1/4" 1/4-track stereo 7-1/2"ips speed (also have lower speed 3-3/4ips) - amazing sound! - not just for listening, but it is actually a great two-track recorder for music production use (for both: in home studio recording situation and if you are a caring, thinking, creative, capable and skilled professional... ,yeah, speaking of hard to find items ;) ).
I happened to have similar machine (exactly as the one at the auction, which Steve posted above) .. a bit different model a-4300sx... but pretty much the same). Auto-reverse function does not hurt :D :p :D , really ... it just has extra head aligned with "other side"-tracks ... and can spin the reel backward at play-speed :)
as I know these models in good working condition go for around 200 bux (more or less depending on condition, e-bay listing presentation skills of the seller and, of course, the weather (rainy weather may stimulate nostalgia and provide the market space with some very moody and easy going shoppers :D )...

oh, ..yeah... thread the tape above the rubber roller and next under the metal arm, so it moves up... if you plug the machine, this should start the motor runnung (cupstan spinning) .. and you should be able to press play (right or left-reverse) and it should be working etc...).

/respects

I'm not sure the left side is threaded right either but it's hard to tell from the pics. But, [from left to right] it should go under the first movable arm then up over the metal knob then down under and over the heads. (make sure there is no cover there blocking the heads). Then go up and inbetween the rubber pincher and the metal post (capstan) and back down under the right moveable arm. With the right arm up and the power on you should hear the motor running and it should be good to go.
