TEAC A-3440s Channel Options Question

Hey guys,

I was just wondering if when you switch the 4-channel option to 2-channel on the A-3440s, does that mean that if I happened to mix something down through this machine, will just half of the tape get covered or does the coverage of the tape heads end up recording over the whole tape? Do y'all get what I'm trying to say? I can elaborate if needed.
 
The 2 track/4 track switch simply turns off the "rear" channels so that you can play back regular 1/4 track stereo tapes without having to turn down the level controls. It also turns off the VU meter lamps as a reminder that you're in the 2 track mode. Nothing more. All the track width parameters stay the same regardless of mode.
