Hey everybody,
I am new here, so please bear with me. I am also new to the wonderful world of adats so again, bear with me.
I have a problem. I have a tascam tmd4k with 3 adat i/o cards and 3 adats with the brc. I think I have come to the conclusion that my lightpipe cables are shit. I cannot get any levels on my adat meters with them.
Tonite, I hooked two 1/4" cables to aux sends 1 & 2 of the mixer to the analog ins 1 & 2 of adat #1, set levels, and recorded a song from the cd. I then hooked up a monster cable(borrowed from my dvd)from the digital out of the adat to the #1 slot i/o card of the mixer. Hit play on the brc, brought up the appropriate faders of the mixer, and I have music!
Now, I take the monstercable and hook it to the slot one output of the mixer to the digital input of adat #1. Start the cd....... Nothing. No matter what I do, I can't get any reading on my adat meters.
I swear that I have read somewhere, that for the digital I/O to work on the adats, that both input and output have to be hooked up.
In other words, you cannot just hook a lightpipe up to just the input and start recording.
Am I going nuts, or is this the way these damn things work? I am starting to get really pissed off. I am used to, turn the machines on, thread the tape, hit record, and make some music, DAMMIT!!!
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hey everybody,
Nevermind. It was the lightpipe cables. Now I have to go out and spend some more money on the right ones.

Here's a lesson for you! DO NOT try to save money buying cheap cables. Save your money, if you have to, and then go buy quality name brand stuff! The cheap crap will bite you either outright, or even worse, when you need it the most!
I was lucky in the fact that I am just getting set up, and I have thrown away only a hundred bucks. It could have cost me a lot more if I had had a client working, and something went out.
