Is the TC_Electronic TC Helicon VoicePrism more of a Effects Processor then a MIC Preamp?????? Or does it live up to it's Price??????

I consider the Voice Prism a vocal processor that has a pre-amp in it.
The pre-amp in the VP is not bad. I would not get the VP just for the preamp - there are some very good affordable pres out there - but if you need a processor and a pre - it provide quality at a decent price..
The vocal processing is beter than average. I got the VP mostly for the harmonizing ability and I have been very satisfied. Some claim you can sole the harmonized channel and not tell the diference - while I don't think it's THAT GOOD, it is the best vocal harmonizer I've tried - in the under $1,000 range.
If anything happened to my VP I would absolutely replace it.

I just got the Helicon Voiceworks with their new Harmony Algorithims, and it sounds way better. It really can be soloed!
The difference is that it now has better gender controls. I'm probably not describing it very well, but if you take a minute to lower the gender on a higher voice, then the results are quite natural. Once I have recorded the harmony I still end up processing them through a stereo widener and then maybe a chorus to beef them up a little. They sound really good in the mix (I'm trying to get a Janet Jackson-type harmony thing going), and if you take care to record in sync with your midi data and have plotted your voices carefully (so no big unnatural jumps), then the results are soloable.
