in short legit or rip off

I'll sell my cd's and stuff if I need some cash but I want to sell more cd's on my own and become a major player underground eventually get some sort of distribution deal but with a good distributor not one that has no backing and is not going to back me up, but to get the backing I need the #'s, it's a #'s game
I know what I need but can't see the road too clearly and want to avoid any wrong turns if possible?

but hey I love music of all genres even though Im selling
screw-shop
but I can listen to a ozzy song and switch it to nsync quick I don't care, if the music is good it's good I mostly listen to indie stuff cuz major lable stuff really really really sux once in a while a song pops up that is decenet but they never say anything just bling bling I love cars im rich and bye bye bye, dam rusty machine it's like you don't even try to make a good song

Go to the bottom of the forum page where it says "search this forum" and type "taxi". there are 22 different threads there you can digest.

Do you really think that these places are going to do something for you. They are playing off your dreams and wishes to induce you to give thme your hard earned money. Becuase they know how hopeful you are, they sucker you in with completely empty promises.

The answer is this...BEWARE OF ANY REPRESENTATIVES THAT DO NOT LISTEN TO YOUR MUSIC FIRST BEFORE AGREEING TO REPRESENT YOU AND CERTAINLY IF THEY ARE CHARGING FOR THE SERVICE.

I've got mixed feelings on this topic, because I see the value of headhunters in the IT industry.

I'd prefer to look at the resume of a pre-screened IT Professional than to have to sift through a rack of resumes.

the difference is... headhunters are paid by the companies they submit resumes to. TAXI is paid by the artist doing the submitting.

For those that don't know, I own IndieBiz.com... Obviously, I'm biased. :D However, I can give you the info on what it is and what it isn't better than anybody.

First of all, it's not representation. People get on IndieBiz.com for a number of reasons, but the top ones are:

1. They want to sell more CDs.
2. They want to get more people to their shows.
3. They want to make more money in music.

I'm not out making big promises about deals that we'll get you or dropping names about success stories we've had. I think the fact the Kathode Ray Music has been around since 1995, I've got a best selling book, I've been featured in dozens of industry publications (see the site), and run the 2nd largest independent music conference in the US speaks for itself.

If you come to me for phone consulting or a personal meeting, the charge is $100/hour. That's what I charge labels and other music business companies (mostly publishers) when we meet. I understand that most indie musicians cannot afford that though and that is why I created IndieBiz.com.

For $99/year, I'll give you personal advice today, tomorrow, next week, next month, and 364 days from now. The reason I can do this so inexpensively is because it's done via a message board, very similar to this one, and the other bands and musicians on IndieBiz can learn from what you're doing. It's a think tank, much like getting together with your friends and talking what you do to promote you record, get more people to your shows, get your newsletter out, or something similar.

Why don't I listen to your music first? Actually, I do when requested.

Keep in mind though that I'm not in the business of telling you what will sell; my job is telling you how to sell what you've got. Does your attorney listen to your music before reviewing a contract? Does a studio listen to your music before booking a session? This isn't a label or publishing deal...it's marketing. If you believe in what you have, that's good enough for me.

Go to www.indiebiz.com, check it out, and list one of my "empty promises."

Go to www.musicbizbooks.com and get my book. When you find an "empty promise," write it down, send it to me, and I'll refund your money.

Yeah JACK,
From reading a lot of your posts, I'm assuming you're some sort of "indbiz" lawyer (maybe I'm wrong). Do YOU listen to everyone's music before you decide to represent them?

Indiebiz.com has been invaluable for my company and artists

Hi

Thought I would comment in regards to David Hooper and www.indiebiz.com

David and my membership into Indiebiz.com has been invaluable to me personally with David's continual support and consultations and also for the artists that I have met in the group.

I am signing Joe E. Daddario to our new label Splashbox Records and we are in negotiations with another artist for a signing as well. I also met the manager of Monique Berry there; Bryan Jacobs of the Cantana Entertainment Group through Indiebiz.com. We have just brought Monique into our non-exclusive representation into Seagoddess Entertainment for shopping her to larger Indie record labels and into publishing and sync license deals. Formed a wonderful working relationship with Bloodroot/Johnny Young, who is also one of our artists for shopping label deals and artist development. Countless relationships formed through the last 3 years that I have been a member of Indiebiz.com.

Frankly, I don't know anyone with as much knowledge about artist development and promotion as David Hooper. This is no scam, quite the contrary. It's an opportunity to hook into a professional working group of Indie artists and Indie music business professionals who want to do something serious about their careers and art.

All the best,
Karen K.

Karen,
Welcome to hr. Since you're new here, you may not know that there are some "pros" here as well. Hope you stay a while.

I'm in my second year of membership with Indiebiz.com, and like Karen it has been invaluable.

Having been in the business semi professionally for about 20 years, I thought I knew quite a bit. Well lets just say that what I knew only scratched the surface of what I needed to know. David has helped me immensly. His first book "How to make 100K etc" has really taught me a lot. It let me know what things I was doing right, and a whole lot of what I was doing wrong. Not to mention Indiebiz is an incredible well of good information to draw from.

The guy really knows his stuff and any advice he gives should not be taken too lightly. Granted I'm not yet making 100K a year but lets just say I'm making more than I had been.

Hmmm. Two brand new "members", both with glowing praise for Indiescam.com.........coincidence?

I also like my Spam with french fries.:D

Ya know, I don't see anything spammy about it, unless you're willing to believe that every "newbie" post came off the same keyboard. That's a stretch for me, even on a bad day. These were responses to a thread that contained a criticism. I don't see the spam angle.

Brand new members

Buffalobob,

Who are the brand new members?

I am signing up soon for my 4th year. I have been with Indiebiz since right after it opened. The other member is with Indiebiz for 2 years.

Maybe you should write a song about spam and eggs. I am always looking for something new.

Please, no re-*hash* with the spam and eggs. We want something new served up.

Where can I hear you music? Today.

Thanks and all the best,
Karen K.

You're pretty pushy for someone who joined this site YESTERDAY. (oddly enough, Mr. Wisconsin joined on the same day you did. Another coincidence?)
Your personna,
"Karen Kottmann
President
Seagoddess Entertainment
Splashbox Records"
sounded very impressive. I did some checking. I can't find any listing for "Splashbox Records" with ASCAP, B.M.I., or any Independant Label Listing. Does it actually exist? From your website (Seagoddess), it would appear that you are an event planner.

You are "always looking for something new"? Really? For what, may I ask? Splashbox Records? Be still, my heart.

"Where can I hear you music? Today."

You cannot. It's only for sale to reputable publishers.

Unbelievable

Firstly, I do not have to answer to you.

Secondly, this label Splashbox Records is a new label with registration sitting in the attorney's office.

1000's of people know of Seagoddess Entertainment and Komco International. Know me personally off this board and in the industry including the major labels.

Contact the artists that I mentioned and the management company. Talk to the majority of Indie Music business people. Our other corporation started event planning and production in 1984.

I really do not have time for this. I'm wondering how you do.
This is my last reply to you.

You want to smear my company name? Enjoy it while you do, Sir.
Call me.

Thank you and all the best!
Karen K.

"Firstly, I do not have to answer to you."

I never said you do. I don't run this site. I'm only an humble member, and as such, entitled to an opinion. (if that's OK with you, of course!)

"Secondly, this label Splashbox Records is a new label with registration sitting in the attorney's office."

Right. Then why do you represent yourself as the "President" of a non-existant company? To impress potential clients? Excuse me if I'm not impressed.

"You want to smear my company name? Enjoy it while you do, Sir."

You don't need any help doing that. You've got a knack for it.

"Call me."

Don't wait by the phone, lady.
