any good reviews on the tascam 2488 im looking into it and im not so sure

 :D Yo Dingle of Berryville:

If you check on the posts herein, you'll find things popping up about the 2844:
small viewing screen; funny sounds from the sliders.

You'll also find some positive remarks about the unit. Personally, I don't care for the size of the screen. I use the Yam 2816; it has a decent sized screen.

But, I've used a couple of Tascam multi-tracks and enjoyed their performance, "then." "Now," is another time.

Green Hornet :p :p :p :D

The only issue I have with mine is with the dim screen but other than that it's a quantam leap above my 788.

I had to return the first machine I got, it had a few problems. The one I have now works flawlessly. I have had great results tracking my band rehearsals (recording 8 tracks simultaneously). You have to get used the compression system a little but this is a great machine. If you are new to multi-track recording buy a system that has alot of presets to help you, the 2488 does not have alot of presets, you have to find your own sounds. If you know how to record and get good sounds on your own this is the machine for you. If you are looking a machine with a bunch of cheesee built in effect generators for guitar (POD like) and mics this may not be the machine for you. If you have great guitar amps, know how to get good drum sounds and have bought a few good microphones this is definitely the machine for you. You do get a very good sounding drum loops, some of best drum loops I have ever heard. This is a great studio it sure beats the hell out of my old Tascam 4-track Reel to Reel recorder and Board.
If you are exprienced look at the Yamamahahas, but buy the 2488.

Things are getting sorted out in the unoffical Tascam forum with the 2488 and users are coming up with lots of new info. And we're finding out the evelopes of what it can and can't do. Still, you'd have to spent nearly 3 large to get a stand alone daw that can do what the 2488 does.

I think considering the price and features the 2488 is amazing

:D Yo Phil:

I didn't spend 3 large ones for the Yam 2816 and it will do anything, maybe even more than the 2488.

That small screen bugs me. Stupid engineers working out there. More so, those who write the manuals--however, that's old OLD gnus.

Green Hornet  ;) :D :D  :p :)

TASCAM easy to use / Highest Quality / Dependable

I've had my TASCAM 2488 for over 6 months. I can't say enough good things about it.

Even after letting it sit for weeks, I can come back to it and easily record without having to read the manual. It is almost as easy to use as the portastudio 424 4track cassette I used decades before.

I returned the first TASCAM 2488 I got from musicians friend because the computer kept getting hung. I had a couple of very bad experiences with musicians fiend and will never do biz with them again. They lost me as a customer for life - over $250 they owed me - what dumbasses. If you want to read more deatil on this, see www.energy-escape.com. I think the fiasco is on the second or third page.

Anyway, I am completely happy with my TASCAM 2488 purchase. It is a high quality machine, very dependable, and easy to use (unlike Yamaha).
