i suffered from the same indecision and ended up getting the fw1884. it's been only 6 days since i got it. the first 3 days i spent getting it running correctly with the pc. i went through hell to get it working. i even changed the motherboard of my pc! but now that it's working fine, i'm glad i got this device. if you are desperate, don't mind the troubleshooting, i say go for it. besides, if you can't make it work with your system, return it and get the digi 002 rack. but you'll sure miss the 100mm flying faders and all the additional input/outputs!
Thanks for the info.
I like the idea of hands on control, but not at the possible expense of getting sidetracked away from the music into an abyss of trouble shooting. I think I am leaning more towards the 002rack. From what everyone says (among other pros and cons) what you see is what you get with Pro Tools. I guess if I really miss the hands on, I can throw out another grand for the new digidesign interface...
The 1884 - once you get it set up it's dead easy to use and it sounds great. You're likely to have compatibility issues with any setup at first. The build quality seems to be excellent and the flying faders are far out! hee hee haven't said that in a while. If you don't get you some faders, you'll be sorry.
