does anybody have any experiences, good or bad, using the USB-428 interface on XP? i'm looking for an audio interface (USB would be ideal, mostly price-wise) to use with my laptop and have ruled out the quattro so far...the USB 428 looks pretty nice, but the requirements on tascam's website indicate windows 98se or 2000 only. are there even XP drivers for this? can it run in compatibility mode? is it just a lost cause right now?

Runs just fine on mine. :D I'm using XP home on a Sony Vaio 800mhz w/ 512M ram and its a pretty sweet, portable system. Using Cubase VST/32 for recording.

Just make sure you download the most current drivers (3.09 right now, I think.) XP will complain a little when you install them since they aren't "signed" by Microsoft, but it will still let you install them. So far, its been more stable than with Win ME, though it still crashes occasionally- usually when I'm running too many plugs at once and the CPU freaks out.

Have fun! Its a killer system for me. I'm thouroughly addicted to the control surface for mixing and transport controls. :)
