Has anyone tried the Tascam US-428 Digital Audio Workstation Controller? I came across it in one of the catalogs and thought it might be a good way to make my Cakewalk system work better.
I guess what I'm looking for is an easier way to get music down to the hard drive. Not that I'm a luddite, but I like my music tracking to be more intuitive, and less about the technology. However, I've tried the cheap 'n' easy cassette multitrackers and found the sound seriously lacking.
Why not check out the digital multitrackers? There are a bunch of them out there. You can record and mix,all digital, and then download to a PC if you want for further editing, or burning a CD.
Twist,
I have been considering going that way. My friend has an Akai DPS-12 which is about as easy to use as it gets. I guess I was trying to see if I could use mostly the hardware and software I already have, but when he showed me yesterday how easy the akai is to use, I got to thinking about plunking down the ducats for a DAW in the next 6 months or so.
The only thing I know about the USB devices is that they are only capable of transferring two channels of audio at a time. Since the US 428 is 24 bit, I don't know why USB should affect actual sound quality. I'd ask the dealer if he can explain that a little more.
