Tascam us144 help plz

I am using a Tascam US-144 to plug in my guitar
The guitar does not seem to register when I go to record.
When I go to Preferences - Audio - Devices - Core Audio it recognizes the Tascam and allows it to be chosen as the Core Audio.
I can also hear my guitar through my headphones hooked up to the Tascam. However, when I try to record, nothing seems to register with Logic.

I am setting up an audio file, so thats not a problem

also it works with GB so it cant be that tascam I presume

I would be grateful for any advice

Its my first foray into computer recording and im finding this tough.

Ive read the tascam and logic manuals and arent any the wiser .

Could anyone give me a hand plz

From what I've read from other 1644 users, one of the drawbacks from this unit is you can't record and monitor at the same time using headphones. I owned this unit for a grand total of 12 hours before i returned it....shrugs.
