i plan to get a Tascam US122 and strictly use it as an A/D interface to my computers (I have a good mic pre).

What is the sound quality? (especially of the AD conv?)

thanks, i'll check it out!
i'm going to Musik produktiv tomorrow for the setup

Feature for feature these units are quite different. The amount of control on the Tascam is vastly different.

Yes they are, but I only need part of the features of the Tascam US122. I already have a good mic pre, so I would only use the line ins (which I couldn't find on the other suggested Maudio unit though) and a digital out, so what would be the benefit of the other controls on the US122?

The Transit has line ins. The analog and digital ins are shared in one 1/8'' jack.

Also, the Tascam (assuming that you use all its features) is meant for use as a "complete" Portable recording solution... for someone who doesn't want to carry around an extra preamp to do a location recording. I like to think of it as a portable songwriter's card (especially since it comes with a portable version of GigaStudio).

Pretty much a good "demo" box.

I used this for the first time a week ago at a friend's studio. It's a nice box. The sound quality is fine. It's not a Great River, but it costs less than $200. It worked fine out of the box (he was using Garageband), and the operation was simple.

My only beef with it was that the knobs were kinda flimsy. The whole unit seems pretty rugged, but they put some very cheap plastic knobs on for input dials. Other than that, I think it's a great little unit, and wholeheartedly recommend it.
