Tascam US-2400 -- smoking new controller!

Have you checked out the new Tascam US-2400 24 channel controller which will hit the market in a month or so? That box is fricking smoking! Its not too expensive either: some shops sell it for $1,500. Given that it has 24 channels its much cheaper than a Mackie Controller plus two expansion units (total: $2600) or the Tascam FW1884 (also $2600 with two expansion units; but that box serves as audio interface as well).

I think I'll get one as soon as it hits the market!

The FW-1884 with 2 expansion units would be about $3,300 now from what I've seen. I think I'm going for the 1884 and then wait for the expansion units to drop by about $500 each and then snap em up.

I'm using a fw-1884 and it's great. While it would be nice to have the expansion units I can't justify the extra dough when all I have to do is hit the bank button on the 1884 to get to the next group of 8 tracks.

I have agonized over these stupid controllers till I'm sick of it and have almost......almost decided on the 1884. I'm very concerned about the fact that Tascam pulled the support forum for these things. What's the deal? New product..no support. Scary. And I may have to do some cutting on my new desk to fit the huge sucker on there. The Yamaha 01X has a great support forum, but it's just too buggy for me right now...and no balanced outputs. May be great when they get all the bugs out. The Digi002 is just too proprietary for me although it's probably a great ( and expensive ) unit. I like the fact that the Tascam has inserts on all the channels. But it's sort of an ugly beast. So is the 2400 controller. The new 24 track standalone from Tascam is nasty looking to me, but cheap. All this new Tascam seems kinda cheap. It makes me wonder.

I had a chance to see the Yamaha 01x this week, and I was suprised to see that even though the ad's say 8 pres, only 2 of them are XLR. I don't know about you, but I see that as a major limitation.

The 2488 also seems very limited. Thought I saw a post here somewhere on how you can only use the multi effects on one channel at a time ?

For the price and the abilities and the fact that your not limited to only one software app, I found the 1884 to have the most bang for the buck.

I actually wanted something like the 1884 with NO pres...just balanced lines in at +4, but that doesn't exist yet, I don't suppose. Well, the Digi02 has 4 lines in with no pres. I've got 6 channels of nice pres that I hate to run through some other dang pres before it hits the recorder. But, I guess later on, when I've paid off all my debt again , I'll just get a good adat interface with some really good converters....problem solved, with more money, of course. I don't see why they can't just make it an option......pres or no pres. Seems that everyone but me wants the pres. You found any bugs in your 1884 yet?

Anyway to answer your question my biggest beef with the 1884 is that you have to run it as a mackie control in Cubase. I've been waiting and waiting for cubase to put out an update to SX 2 so that hopefully I can run the 1884 in it's native mode.

Other than that everything seems to be o.k...I actually like the pres that are in it. I know were not talking about Neve's or anything, but they sound good...
