Hi,

Does anyone own or hear anything on these? good or bad

http://tascam.com/product/us-2000/videos/

I'm looking into getting one to record a live project with it next month in december.

On the video for the TESCAM the 8 studio-grade mic pre amps are said to be placed for condenser microphones. I plan on using dynamic and ribbon mics for the december project, so where would these be situated...?

If this is not the baby for me, can anyone please recommend something else?

Thanks

Those 8 mic pres will work with any kind of mic, not just condensers. But you might want to double-check and see if the phantom power is individually selectable per channel or not. There are some ribbons that don't like phantom power, and if you can only select phantom power on/off for all 8 channels simultaneously, and not individually, you might not be able to mix condensers and ribbons on that box at the same time. That also depends upon your ribbons and if they can take phantom power or not too.

I like Tascam products a lot myself, though I have no specific experience with the 2000, so I can't personally give a recommendation one way or another in that regard.

Well Glen covered your microphone sitch already, so I guess I'll just say that I've got a us-1641 that treats me great and I love it. I wouldn't think that the 2000 would be that much different.

^ditto. I also have the 1641, just recorded 12 tracks at the same time (live band "demo" recording) with zero issues, on an older Core 2 Duo laptop.

AFAIK, the 1641 has phantom power in groups of 4, while the 2000 switches power on in pairs.

I had it for over a year now. It works great with Sonor 8.5 Make sure you get all the upgrades Tascam service is great they are very helpful. You can turn of the phantom power on two channels at a time
