Hi There

Im having an issue with my usually trusty US-1641 Ill just lay out what im trying to achieve and why first

Im using two computers

Computer 1 - Running cubase 7 as my main project with the US-1641 USB

Computer 2 - Runing cubase 5 with an M-audio Fasttrack Pro for spectrum analasis and osciliscope

My aim was to use the SPIDIF out on the tascam to feed the SPIDIF in on the fasttrack pro thus giving me constant visual feedback on the signal on my laptop set to one side of my main monitor screens.

After trying many different configurations on the main output of individual tracks, the master bus and the sends all I can seem to have available to me are outputs 1 to 4. I have also tried just playing it as normal in the hope that somehow the outputs may be active on the SPIDIF when signal is being routed to the stereo bus but no luck there either.

When I carry out the same technique in reverse it works perfectly (ie) setting the output on the cubase 5 laptop with the M-audio interface to digital out and conecting this to the SPIDIF in on the tascam. When I do it this way I get a signal on an audio track in cubase 7 using a new stereo input bus using digital in left and right with no problem at all. I can play a track on cubase 5 and record it in cubase seven on my main music computer. This works when the main output is assigned to spidif out and it also works perfectly when I use a send as well. This would be the ideal set up for me if it worked the other way around

Is there ANY way to get signal to output from the SPIDIF/Digital out on the tascam at the moment it just seems redundant for some reason.
Both projects are set to 44.1/24bit

Can anyone help as ive just paid 60 bucks for a decent quality SPIDIF cable to be able to analise signals exactly as they sound coming from my main output and cut down on CPU usage. I also want to have my spectrum analiser and oscilliscope running on a seperate screen/computer away from my mix and edit screens.

Please Please heeeelp =)

Cheers
Bryan

Views don't necessarily mean you are being ignored. Just nobody has anything to offer.

I had the 1641 for quite some time and never used it for anything like you wish. In fact, I have never heard of someone doing so or whether it is even possible.

Best to you tho.

I am not sure why you don't just use a analyzer plugin. They hardly take any resources.

And by the way, what is it and why do you feel the need for such?

It is so that I can have it directly to my right always on and visible without taking up space on my main monitors which are used for mix and edit windows

I have 3 video monitors running with Cubase so I suppose I am spoiled with places to put things.

That being said, I have never had the need for an analyzer anyway. I am curious what it is you are doing that requires use of such.

I am not being judgmental of your practices. I am just actually curious.

:)

I find when you use a spectral analyser constantly while listening you start to equate tuning and harmonics into visual data. This creates an etheral understanding a sort of third dimention to the soundscape. For instance you are no longer thinking of just the Hz you are thinking in terms of tuning for instance is the kick drum in tune harmonically with the bass or ar they out of key with each other? This becomes a natural thing that you dont notice going on in your head as you mix. It allows you to make VERY creative decisions that can hugely increase the power of the mix

To each their own man. I have the perspective of using my ears to find what works.

What type of music do you mostly work with?

Im trying to adapt electronic music production techniques on rock and metal recordings

Sounds like fun! :)

It would be nice if you presented a bit of personality here. Maybe a smile or something?

Just because this forum exists does not make it a support forum for your personal issues to be resolved.

Sorry but I feel a bit of arrogance/sterility with your posts.

Let's start over...

Hey Bryan, How the heck are ya?

Welcome to HR. There are many here with the desire to help each other out in any way they can. I myself voluntarily contribute as a moderator because I actually care about people and try to help out whenever I can.

What brings you here buddy? Is there anything I can help you with?

:)

lol =) sorry dude ya know when computer issues make you want to jump off a bridge? havin one of them weeks probably coming through in my lacklustre posts. Defo no arrogance on my behalf we are all learners when it comes to music production no matter what level we are at. I have a new set up and Im trying to get it all configured to keep the OCD wolves at bay =) Everything on my tascam seems to work except the spidif out for some reason. The SPIDIF in works fine however. I will be changing over to the Midas M32 soon but will probably still use the Tascam for home production. The pc Im using at the moment doesnt allow for trhree screens unfortunately maybe the next one will and I wont have to sellotape everything together =)

Applogies If I came across rude
