Tascam & studio enviroment. . .?

2 brief questions . . . First is that, I was planning to cover the 424 with a plastic dust cover when not in use, . . something like one of those plastic covers that you lay over computer printers. . . my concern is that, it seems like it attracts a lot of static charge. . . .can that sorta thing create more static buildup on the heads?

Second, the room that we are going to be recording in has a florescent light on the ceiling, . . .can that, or will that possibly cause more noise for the 424 recorder, and should I think about removing the fluorescent light fixture, and replace it with n incandescent bulb type light?
 
An anti-static dust cover should do the trick.

As for florescent lighting; turn it off while recording or remove it all together and replace with incandescent lighting.

Florescent lighting can cause buzzes in the signal chain as can dimmer controls on lighting.

Flourescent lights can cause buzzes in the signal chain, especially overly long unbalanced mic lines, however, the 424mkII is not especially prone to picking up interference, like you might think. 99 times out of 100, you'll have no problem with any sort of interference, from mics, cords or otherwise, never the less on the 424mkII. I'd probably worry most about the super-hot overdriven electric guitar, picking up buzz.
 
I use bath towels to cover my gear. A cheap solution to the static problem.

Except that towels accumulate dust - a lot of it - that gets shaken-off onto your gear everytime you take it on or off.... I highly recommend plastic instead.....
 
I use plastic, too. Plastic sheeting from a trash bag, usually.

I don't think that any static that might be generated from a simple plastic sheet is anything to worry about. It keeps the dust out, alright.
