So my head stacks came back from JRF Magnetics yesterday and MAN they are SHINY! John there does great work. I had my original head stack relapped and aligned, but I also own a NOS head stack purchased from a certain knowledgeable someone here at HomeRecording.com, so I sent that too. John evaluated it, verified it and aligned it as well.
Well worth the time and money... but word to the wise... if you have any heads you are looking to get reconditioned, don't wait, he's about the only one to do it in this hemisphere and he won't be doing it forever! I plan to send my Tascam 32 heads to him soon too.
He is a great guy and said that my original heads really weren't too bad, just a small amount off to level them out, then he aligns all the guides and the azimuth/zenith on each head. He did a fair amount of polishing and cleanup as well. They look lovely!
