Tascam DP-008 - Which External Mics are Best

Hello,

Can someone please tell me the best external mics to use with the TASCAM DP-008. I currently am using Shure PG27 Condensor Mics, which require using phantom power. When I use the external mics, I'm getting a very bassy, boomy recording. Also, the output level of my records with the DP-008 are lower than recordings with MP3's I download from iTunes. If I turn the output level up any higher, the display shows that it is starting to clip.

Any advice or tips is much appreciated!

I wonder if the boom is transfer thru the mic stand or from incorrect placement technique. What are you recording and how do you have the mics placed?
