Hi everybody,

Really cool forum, its my first time posting here. I hope someone can help me, I own a Tascam DM -4800 for the last 3 years and still cant figure out how to calibrate the faders. They dont sit side by side anymore like when it was brand new obviously.

I emailed Tascam in Japan, and they could'nt even give me the correct answer, so I became so depressed with the console (altough it's brilliant) that I wanted to sell it to buy something simpler.

But then again, I just need too start understanding the beast..

Now I know I have not been here long but there is something odd about the placing of posts?
How can a guy who has had a a £3,500 digital mixer for 3 years fetch up in a noobs column?

To the OP: I do not know of that Tascam at all but if you are asking how to get all the faders to sit at "0" when each channel has the same signal voltage going in I bet I could work it out! I don't often say it but in 3 yrs you should have RTFM'ed!

Dave.

hi Dave,

first of all , I'm in the noobs column because I'm new to this forum.

2nd, I did read the manual from time to time, but nothing in the manual about fader calibration.

even sound on sounds mentioned this to be a VERY difficult to opperate console.

it's great, but not easey. a friend of mine owns the same desk for 2years now and still struggels with more then half the console features.

I made a payment to Tascam in Cape Town to go for training on how to propperly operate this console.

not very easey.

Sorry Werner but I could not find an SoS review of that mixer. Do you have a link?

Re the "noob" issue. It does say "Just starting. Afraid to ask a question?"

Now with the greatest respect, with 3 yrs under your belt and THAT kit you are not just starting and do not seem any shrinking violet!

Personally, if after 3 years of trying and going on a course I could not work something, I would conclude said equipment is in some way faulty, or VERY badly designed and would try to sell it.

The new Behringer X32 looks great!

Thanks for correcting, didn't read it properly.. Altough, I doesn't help my problem... I must be honest, I doesn't matter where someone post's something, Questions are free, and where ever I post a question, I was just looking for help.. SORRY!!!

I know the Behringer, and no, it's not pro audio, so I'll rather stick with the Tascam. I promise you I'm not going to Plug my Neve's, Avalon's, Eventide's plus the rest into a Behringer.

One thing Most people seems to forget, not everyone's English. I'm from South Africa, and I'm Afrikaans Speaking, so everything in English I'm not going to understand... Every piece of gear has a culture to it, for example, a Focusrite Liquid 56 is totally different from a RME fireface 800. Just because of where it was made.

I really hope my post finds you well, only looking for help without being punished for asking a question in the wrong folder.

(doesn't allow me to post a link here... Search: Tascam DM 3200 Sound on Sound) - same as DM 4800 only smaller...

Not you fault Werner, I just think the post should have been moved is all.

You do not, with respect "know" the Behringer X32 since none have been released to the general public as yet.
The mixer is a pro device (pres said to be "Midas like") and it gets a very, very good report from none less than Hugh Robjohns in the current SoS issue.

But I WAS joking just a bit mate!

Dave.

Well, I must say, that's really cool!! the Pre's and all... I remember since back in the day with Behringer products I've always been afraid to own anything from them... The old Consoles were very noisy I remember.
But what you just said, is good news indeed.. Especially the Midas Pre's...:)

I tracked some Acoustic guitars with the Tascam Pre's the other day, and I must say, It works GREAT on acoustic guitars. The Eq's doesn't work on everything, but sometimes it's a REALLY nice to have EQ.

I'm leaving for Johannesburg tomorrow for 2 weeks, doing recordings for a few Artists. and while I'm there I'm having a meeting setup with the SSL team in S.A, so obviously I can't wait to see what they have! If all goes they way I expect it to, I might buy a Duallity. otherwise, a SSL AWS 900 48, should do the thing also..

gear is one my excitements in life, and the Tascam still excites me, it's just like I said, not User friendly at all. It's really sad in a way, Because, I think they can have such a bigger Client base in the pro audio game, as there's nothing wrong with their quality.. I remember they made great 24 track tape machines, and also they had awesome headphones too.
