Tascam DA-88 playback problem

Hi there. I wonder if any of you can help. I have recently acquired a Tascam DA-88 digital 8 track, principally so I can mix down a load of old tapes recorded on a DA-88. All the tapes work fine, except one, which seems to be playing back at more than double the speed it was originally recorded at. I have no idea why it should be doing this. I've tried toggling the pitch control on the machine but this does little more than give me Error messages. I can't see what the problem should be - anyone got any ideas? Maybe I'm missing something really obvious?

The that was recorded in a long play mode (I forget the sample rate but it's 32Khz or something), and the DA88 is playing it back at normal speed.

Has the DA88 got a option to change the sample rate on playback?
