BOSS has one that uses ZIP discs, but I havn't seen much about it. I'd like to see a comparison.

It's brand new, but it's also been highly anticipated. It just takes one word to describe it: TASCAM. It's gotta be good!

I actually held one in my hans on Sat. although I didn't hear it.It's kinda strange/cheesy looking, but if it does what it says at that price, who cares?

yeah ray..i saw it too...it BETTER sound good...cause it looks cheap and shitty....i cant believe that...and for the $800 or $900 that they want for it...no way....a couple hundred bucks more and ya get the fostex vf-16...twice the tracks...and built TEN times better....pretty disapointing...but i guess tascams priorities are in thier higher end stuff...who knows...but like i said..i havent heard it..and thats what counts when it comes down to it

Yeah, the Fostex is in a metal casing,BUT records at 16 bit res. and only 8 virtual tracks vs.24 bit res. and 250 virtual tracks on the 788 so pick yer poison...

the vf-16 has automated mixing that is possible without losing significant amounts of hair...on the roland products its almost more trouble than its worth...besides id take 16 track/16 bit over less tracks/more bits anyday...i want my stuff to sound great but i AM only recording at home..as far as virtual tracks...ive never even used one
