I recently purchased the Tascam 788 recorder. I am very new to home recording, so I need a little help. The manual sent with the product isn't helping me too much, so I thought I'd see if anyone here could help me... here are a few a my questions.

1) Say I record a guitar track, drum, and vocals and I can to "turn down" the drums so that one thing doesn't over power another, how would I do that?

2) Could anyone please explain how the effects work, and possibly which does what? I told you I'm very new.

I just have a problem with editing and mixing with the Tascam, recording isn't a problem. I'm wanting to learn as much as I can with home recording, so any help or advice is extremely appreicated.

1. You can control the cue mix (that's what you hear in the headphones that doesn't get re recorded everytime you lay down a new track). I think that's what you're asking. Or you can assign the recorded track by hitting track-select, that takes it out of cue and you can control the volume with the faders.

2. The two effects engines on the 788 is too big a topic to go over here. Check out the quick start manual, Pat's explanations are pretty good.

Good luck and happy recording.

Maybe to little to late

There is a button labeled quick setup. press this button and it will give you individual level control of all the tracks
