I noticed recently that my TASCAM Midistudio 688 although doing everything I wanted it to (be a mixer for all my stuff), the cassette drive was not working. Most of my googles sent me through this forum. Thanks to you I plucked up the courage to do the right thing (don't talk to me about old) and ordered the bits. triplex-service.de sent me the service manual (42 Euro) and the replacement belt (10 Euro) with 50% off - maybe just for new customers - with no delay. Of course it is not until youi have the thing open (which was not going to happen without something to replace) that you figure out you guessed wrong: It was the motor. They sent me the motor for 20 Euros. I hope they can do this again in 20 years time.

Once again, thanks for the help.

I'm glad you fixed it. I bought a new 688 around 1990 to replace my Fostex 450 gig-mixer
that got ripped off. I hadn't had it 1 month when I spilled a bottle of beer into the transport
section. The display began scrolling a bunch of fragmented images and none of the transport
controls would operate. I freaked out. When I calmed down I turned it off and got a fresh
beer - let it sit overnight to evaporate. Next day I hit it with a hot blow dryer for about
5 minutes and .. voila! She fired right up and worked perfectly for the next 20 years.

That 688 was a tough little mixer.
