cjacek Analogue Enthusiast Mar 28, 2010 #2 They're both 8 track / 8 channel so I would assume yes. If you can go 488 to 688 with no problems then vice versa should be as good.

P pehjott Member Mar 28, 2010 #3 I'm not sure because the 688 has a different head and is a true 8 track. the 488 II has a different head and is more of a 2x4 track.

A Reel Person It's Too Funky in Here!!! Apr 2, 2010 #4 ... If not exactly the same head (part #), they are at least the exact same format. It should work, while keeping in mind head azimuth alignment is extremely critical on such a tiny format./DA
