Anyone here happen to be selling a Tascam 488? Thanks for any replies.

Hey there,
I used to own a Tascam 488. Just a little advice, you might want to try locating a Tascam 688, or even better, a 388 instead. The 488 only allows you to record up to 4 tracks at once, which, if you ever plan on recording a live band, might be an issue.

Best wishes,
-MD

Hey MD,

Thanks for the advice. I hadn't actually heard of the 688, but I just recently bought a 488 from ebay and am waiting for it to arrive. I needed to get something for as fast/cheap as possible since it's for a project for school (we're recording a demo album), and I wasn't completely sure that I could work the 388...being new to this whole analog scene and all. But I'm looking at the 388 for the future.

Thanks for the help,
Joey

See if you can get a cheap effects processor off eBay or in your local listings. It doesn't have to be the best, but it's a good idea to have one or two effects to add some depth to your recordings.

Also, I hope you are able to get the manual with the 488. It's not that hard to use, but a little direction can help.

Good luck,
-MD

I'm all in favor of the 488, w/the mkII being a bit better.

The 488(std) will record 4-tracks simultaneously, but has only 2 preamps and a 12-input mixer with fixed EQ. The MkII gives you 4 preamps, better EQ and a better display.

The 488/mkII is a great place to start recording,... that's not too complex. ;)

Wow Dave, that's the exact picture of the MkII that I printed out to visualize with. Did you get that from Ebay? That's the one that started it all.

So I got an MKII with a manual and a couple high quality tapes thrown in. Should arrive early next week. I'm pretty excited.

You'll be stoked with the 488mkII.

Well,... I'm stoked. The 488mkII is sweet, 'specially if it's low use and clean!................... ;)

Agreed. I got nostalgic just looking at the 488MKII pic. I need to clean mine off/dust it. :(

Ok

So, I have my Tascam 488. I plug in the mic, I turn it on. I speak into it. I don't see anything indicating that it's picking up the sound. Also can't hear anything through the headphones.

Any Ideas?

I've tried the line, and different channels already. Mic and line.

Any help is very much appreciated.

Heh, I got it. Nevermind. Sorry guys...first timer over here
