Gear Gear Gear
Here's my .02 worth..."Reel Person" is in my opinion correct about the gear thing. Too many people get started in this and then instead of really working at it think they need more/better/different gear....which immediatly leads to more/better/different gear.
I started (this time) with a Tascam 424MKIII, and a couple of mics....then I got a Tascam TSR-8, then I had to have a Mackie 1604 VLZ Pro mixer for it...then I started buying phantom powered mics, then a midi-verb, then an Alesis XT-20 Adat...now I need a compressor, and am looking at
an Alesis HD-24 hard drive recorder and lusting over the Mackie SR32X4 mixer! Not to even mention all the cables, adapters, mic stands, etc. etc etc......
I have a Blues/Hendrix band (3 piece) and just for kicks...took the 424MKIII to the gig the other night and taped the guitar/bass/drums all with SM57's and I was ASTOUNDED at how good it sounded!
It wasn't that long ago that all this stuff was way out of the reach of the average musician, and cost thousands of dollars for each good piece of gear! When I started doing this (in the 70's) an 8-track recorder was like the holy grail or something! Now most of this stuff is dirt cheap!
BUT..... I don't dare add up how many bannanas I have dropped so far...and there doesn't seem to be an end in sight.
Gear lust doesn't seem to have an end!
