TASCAM 488 MKII headphone output problem

Hi, I've had this problem with my Tascam this morning. Yesterday I was recording and all went well, I could hear myself through the headphones. This morning I go up and try to record but I can't hear myself at all, I checked everything and I can't find a good reason as to why this is happening. I can only hear myself at an extremely low level when I put all my levels up. Any idea as to why? Can it be fixed or is it just that my headphone plug is damaged?

Did you plug a mono instrument cord into your headphone jack by any chance?
That will cause your headphone jack to burn out if left in it for more than a few minutes. (sometimes almost instantaneously).
