Hey guys. I've been reading up on these threads for a while now, and It's been really fun and informative. So when I had some extra money I went ahead and got me a Tascam porta 464 offa ebay for 75 bucks.
Long story short, I found that for some reason I cannot record onto track 3, at first. Tracks 1,2, and 4 were working fine and so I was recording on 2 and 4 and bouncing to 1, etc.
HOWEVER, after using the machine for a couple of hours, i found that track 4 also did not work. I tried switching tapes, different inputs, lots of stuff. All I can hear an extremely faint copy of what I was trying to record on those tracks, I think I'm doing it right, it worked before. (Microphone into track 4, track set to mic/line, gain up, panned to right, record function enabled on track 4.)
I think it might be broken, but as I am new to 4 track and only have the 424 manual, I'm wondering if I am doing something wrong. Maybe while recording those first few tracks?.
