Hi all,

Just wondering what you think of the 42B as a mixdown deck and does this seem like a fair price?

On craig's list:

This is a Tascam 42B 1/4" 2-track analog tape machine.

Very little use, in great shape. $400 OBO

RCA I/O are -10db. XLR I/O are +4db.

Rack mountable, remote, edit block

This would be a great machine for "The Tape Project".
 
Unless it comes with accessories or is in excellent condition I'd say its a little on the high-side.

Good deck though if my experience with the 48 is any indicator.

Another thought too though is am I assuming correctly that it is local? That's worth something.

If it is, go have a look and see if it is as described. If it is, then maybe you can bargain down a little bit.

I've seen these decks going for around $300 on eBay, but then you've got freight costs on top of that, and the risk of damage.
