I can't recall whether or not G2k36 said he had a mixer at any time; either in this thread or numerous others.
I'm sorry Kitty but I think it's time to face up to reality. You CANNOT record four tracks direct on the 424 unless you only use Channels 1 to 4 (Ch1 to Tr 1, 2 to 2, etc). If you want to use 6 mixer channels at once then you need a Portastudio with a proper 6 into 4 buss mixer. Like the ones I mentioned.
The only alternative is to print the bass and drums to Track 1 or 4 first, using the L-R position on the record select switch and then panning everything left (1) or right (4), and then overdub the rest directly to the remaining tracks.
