I can't recall whether or not G2k36 said he had a mixer at any time; either in this thread or numerous others.

I'm sorry Kitty but I think it's time to face up to reality. You CANNOT record four tracks direct on the 424 unless you only use Channels 1 to 4 (Ch1 to Tr 1, 2 to 2, etc). If you want to use 6 mixer channels at once then you need a Portastudio with a proper 6 into 4 buss mixer. Like the ones I mentioned.

The only alternative is to print the bass and drums to Track 1 or 4 first, using the L-R position on the record select switch and then panning everything left (1) or right (4), and then overdub the rest directly to the remaining tracks.

i am not going to tell you to sell everthing and start over. Instead, im going to tell you to learn to use the equipment that you have, to it's full extent. then, if you cant do what you want, buy what you need to do it. Most everything you learn on the way will still apply.

Excellent post, and good advice on multi-tracking Kit's band. Kit desperately wants to record live though. But rick'm is right, he (she?) will get a better sounding product multi-tracking the way rick'm described. Except I'd put the drums in stereo, requiring a bounce or two down the road. But you gotta start at the beginning...

Thanks for all the advice. But i think this will work. Also, why cant you use both Direct and Buss at the same time? what happens?


Track 1- Vocals (Buss L) Input 1
Track 2- Rythmn Guitar (Buss R) Input 2
Track 3- Lead Guitar (Buss L) Input 3
Track 4- Drums and Bass (Buss R) Input 4, 5, 6 or 4,6.

This way, everyone will be recorded in one take.

Vocals- Panned Center
Rythmn Guitar- Panned Right
Lead Guitar- Panned Left
Drums- Panned Center
Bass- Panned Left-Center

We will mixdown to a CD burner, external, because i dont thik you can mixdown to an internal one. this way we can make CD's rather than cassettes for distribution
