3 Days Drunk
Has anyone using this or another 4-track had trouble with noisy jacks?

Can some one suggest how to clean them? My 424 has been trucking right along since I bought it in Japan in '94 [you try to read the manual in Japanese!], but has developed this noise problem...

Any suggestions?
Also...

I have a 200 MHz[pen. 2], 64k ram, 4G HD, Win 98 O/S computer...
any suggestions for Recording software? I am a guitar player and of course, on a budget. I am just looking for the best "Bang For the Buck".

Thanks, I wish I would have stumbled into this website sooner!

Hey Bow,

It sounds like you and I have similar setups (i.e. low-budget, and old Tascam). I have had luck with recording from my 8-track Tascam into my computer, and using SoundForge to master the end result. The downside to this is that you have very little control over individual tracks. Cool Edit is another very popular program that is similar to SoundForge. If you want to multi-track right on your computer, though, you have to look into Cakewalk, or n-track. There are others, of course, but they get pretty expensive. Free downloads of all of the above programs can be had on the web. Try them out, and remember to always check the system requirements.

Hope this was helpful.
Sorry about your noisy jacks, dude. I'm not really sure about that one.
